How to Create a Spa-Like Bathroom

The first step to making your bathroom more spa-like is to declutter. Once you’ve done the hard work to create clear spaces and surfaces, it’s time to have a little fun! Follow these tips to create your perfect zen space, whether you want to spend a little or a lot.

Invest in luxurious towels: Purchase high-quality, fluffy towels. Go with a relaxing shade of blue or green if you like color, or go full-on spa by opting for pure white. Roll them up spa-style and display them or stack them neatly in a cupboard.

Add some nature: Add one or two elements of nature. Display a simple bouquet, a green plant, a clear vase full of seashells, a dish of pine cones, or a pottery bowl full of smooth stones on your vanity countertop.

Make it smell great: Invest in a diffuser and some all-natural essential oils. Scents of lavender, geranium or rose will help make you relaxed and sleepy, while peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, or citrus will help rejuvenate you. If you don’t have a diffuser, add 5-10 drops of essential oil to your bathwater.

Consider the lighting: Most bathrooms have harsh overhead lighting. Add a small lamp to your vanity countertop to use during bath time. Or light a few candles (either traditional or battery-powered) when it’s time to relax.

Get cozy: Purchase a fluffy spa robe and comfy slippers to warm you each time you step out of the shower or tub.

Upgrade your shower head: Purchase a waterfall or massaging shower head at your local home improvement store. Most can be installed in less than 15 minutes and will transform your daily shower into a spa treatment.

Choose calming colors: If you have the desire to make a high-impact change for just a little money, then paint the walls! Think of the colors found in nature… if you prefer neutrals, then soothing browns and grays are the way to go. Want a little color? Then opt for soothing greens and blues.
