Catastrophic Cabinet? Containerize!

I recently helped a client take a bathroom catch-all cabinet from spooky to spectacular! It was such fun. After a quick assessment of the space, I recognized that the problem was due to three things:

  • Due to lack of organization, the client couldn’t see what she had, so she was over-buying on some items.
  • Although items were somewhat sorted by type in the cabinet, there was no labeling, so new items that entered the bathroom were just shoved onto any shelf.
  • Although there were some containers being used, the lack of uniformity gave a messy appearance, and they didn’t have any lids, which contributed to random items being stuck into any box or basket.

I sorted all the items into categories, and then my client perused each bunch to see what was expired, overabundant, or just not needed. That allowed us to cull down the collection. Then, we decided on new categories and stocked the boxes accordingly.

Lastly, each box was labeled with a “chalkboard” label from Michael’s. Items that are used less frequently were placed on the top shelf, while frequently used items were kept at an easy grab-and-go level.

In just three hours, we had a orderly new space that is sure to be much more functional.
